By Marx Lomas If you are ever in doubt how best to care for your purchases just ask your retailer or the manufacturer who should be happy to help. The information below should however be used as a quick reference in conjunction with the instructions provided with your garden furniture purchase.
There are three main types of wooden garden furniture namely Teak, Iroko and Jarrah (Eucalyptus), this article will detail basic care advice for all three types of wood and can be applied to various others, in conjunction with manufacturer guidelines. The furniture may be left untreated and will, over a few months, weather to a soft silvery grey this look is preferred by some people. However, the use of timber treatment or teak oil is recommended to keep the furniture looking at its best and slow down the natural weathering process. There are many excellent products available and various shades with which to treat the wood. Treated wood will maintain a glossy brighter colour depending on the type of oil used and the variety of wood. Cleaning wooden garden furniture is relatively simple, treated or not the furniture will need to be kept clean. An occasional wipe or scrub down as necessary with warm water and detergent, or timber cleaner, is recommended. The wood should be completely clean and dry before treating. After initial treatment regular light applications of timber treatment will be necessary to retain the finish, please see care label or fact sheet for full details. Storage is always a problem especially if you live in harsher climates, if you have storage space it is best practice to put the garden furniture away for the worst months as this will keep it in peak condition. If you have no storage space get a specialist garden furniture cover preferably made by the same manufacturer as the garden furniture so the fit is correct, these will protect from water wind and sun. This practice will prolong the life and keep your new wooden garden furniture looking excellent. This leads to the next topic of weathering. As part of the weathering process, cracks and splits will appear particularly on the end grain and to a lesser extent on the surface, within a few weeks to months depending on your climate. But should not be too significant else I would suggest you contact you supplier. As with other close grain hardwoods such as oak, this is normal behaviour of the timber. Natural oils and minerals in the wood evaporate due to exposure to the elements. The furniture is designed with this in mind and its strength and durability remain unaffected One last after though is to ensure proper care of your cushions if you have any, they are particularly sensitive to harsh weather conditions like strong sun which can bleach the colour, so cover them up or put them in storage while not in use. Observe the proper cleaning instruction as per the manufactures recommendations or cleaning labels. Garden furniture is an excellent addition to any outdoor environment and is an expensive investment so take proper care of it and you will reap the rewards later. Marx Lomas

Antiques - An Introduction
By Michael Russell If you look up the word antique in the dictionary you will find the following definition: antique (noun), pronounced an.tique. 1 : a relic or object of ancient times; 2 a : a work of art, piece of furniture, or decorative object made at an earlier period and according to various customs laws at least 100 years ago; Okay, so now we technically know what an antique is. But are all antiques worth anything? That's where the answer is a little harder to come up with than a mere definition. Just what DOES make an antique worth something? The simple answer to that is us. As with anything else in life and in the market place how much something is worth depends on how much a person is willing to pay for it. Taking an extreme example, if you go back 100 years from the writing of this article, it would be safe to say that a person would be more willing to pay a large sum of money for John William Godward's "Flabellifera" painting of 1905 than for a wooden fence taken from the front of someone's house in that same year. They're both 100 years old, and technically both antiques, but since wooden fences are probably a dime a dozen, even from that year, it is doubtful that the wooden fence would demand much of a price. Not to say there aren't some people who would pay something for a 100 year old fence. So what are some of the more in demand antiques of the day and how much are people willing to pay for them? Well, how about wrapping your brain around some of these prices. A pair of Victorian birds eye maple music chests from 1875 carry a price tag of about $21,000. A Regency rosewood sofa table with brass inlay goes for about $14,000. A fine quality Queen Anne period walnut bureau circa 1705 goes for around $14,500. A 1795 George III oak longcase clock with eight day striking movement by Stanford, Yarmouth sells for in the vicinity of $6,100. Getting away from furniture and moving to the art world, a Victorian style old English oil painting from around 1870 goes for about $500. A James Stark Victorian English landscape painting from 1842 goes for a whopping $5,995, and that doesn't include shipping charges. Interested in a good antique watch? An 8 Days Railroad Pocket Watch from 1890 goes for about $300. An 1897 Imperial Russian Military Pocket Watch has a price tag of about $500. An Imperial Russian Family Pavel Watch Circa 1897 will get about $600 from an interested buyer. A New Columbus 16 jewel pocket watch made in 1880 sells for about $300. A turn of the 20th century Hamilton 17 jewel pocket watch will end up in someone's hands for about $350. And we haven't even scratched the surface of antiques. What is listed above is relatively cheap. The expensive stuff goes back hundreds of years and goes for amounts that would stagger the imagination. We'll go over some of the more expensive antiques including items from the 17th and 18th century in a future article.

Make Your Rose garden Bloom - Successful Rose Gardening Tips You Can Easily Implement
By Tim Gorman Many of the tasks that need to be done in the garden are the same for most types of plants. So if you've recently added roses to your garden, you will find that you're already many of the required tasks to keep them healthy and flourishing. Still, there are some particularly things that need to give your roses the proper care and attention they need. Here are some tips to remember when maintaining and cultivating your rose garden. When you're first planting out your rose garden, make sure you allow plenty of room between the rose bushes. Leave at least eighteen inches between standard garden varieties, up to thirty inches between bushes, and as much as eight to twelve feet between climbing roses. Miniature roses aren't as fussy, and can be planted as close as twelve inches apart. If your roses are smothered and competing for the available food and water, they won't thrive and reward you for your effort. It's important to give your rose garden plenty of water. Roses are very thirsty flowers, and it's important to make sure you always saturate your roses when watering. Don't make the mistake of thinking that sprinkling your rose bush with the house for five minutes a day is sufficient. Take the time to soak the soil around your rose bush thoroughly, so that the water can seep down deep into the soil and supply plenty of water for your roses to drink. Roses love the sunshine, so make sure you plan your rose garden to maximize the amount of sunlight your roses receive. However, rose blooms can get burnt by the sun, so if you live in an area that's particularly sunny and warm, you might want to be careful about which breeds of roses you plant in your garden. Your local nursery should be able to help. Even so, most roses like to receive at least six hours of sunlight a day, so plan accordingly. If your garden is a little shadier than that, take the time to choose shade tolerant varieties. By planning your rose garden sensibly in the first place, and then taking the time to give your roses what they need, you'll be rewarded with a beautiful rose garden that all your friends will envy. Antique Delft and Very Collectible Tiles and Ceramics: Beginners Start Here
By Joy Pearson So you fancy starting a collection but you're not sure what to collect? How About . . . ? Every home will contain at least one example or more - in the kitchen, the bathroom, the fire surround. How long have they been in existence and what should we look out for when buying an Old Tile. When trying to identify an old tile, the most difficult aspect is where was it made and when. The most famous tiles are referred to as delft. But why? The term delft is derived from the dutch town of Delft. The Netherlands began to produce tin-glazed earthenware in the late 15 century. Potteries were established in many parts of the Netherlands, Amsterdam, Haarlem and Rotterdam, but by the late 17 century Delft had become the most important centre of production and nearly 30 companies were working in the area. The original delft tile designs came about when Chinese porcelain stopped being imported in the mid 17 century and the popular Chinese wares were reproduced in blue and white. Initially made in blue and white, later in the century the Delft potters introduced a wider variety of colours, yellow, purple, blue, red, green and black. Flemish and Dutch potters arrived and settled in London in 1570, but it wasn't until the 18 century that the delftware tile industry became established in Britian. The main centres were London, Bristol and Liverpool. The tiles usually depicted flowers, ships, landscapes and many scenes of biblical subjects. So now we know that we're looking for either Duitch delft or English delft, but it's quite dificult with these early examples to determine the place of origin. A few tips: Dutch delft often has a gritty texture, thick glaze and 'peppering' on the surface caused by air bubbles exploding during firing. Dutch tiles are painted in a very assured manner with great skill and expertise. The tin glaze of Dutch tiles is usually whiter because it contains more tin oxides making it liable to craze. British delftware is typically less finely potted and the glaze is often tinged with blue or pink. Colours tend to be more muted due to the absorbency of the tin glaze used. The glaze is much glossier and smoother than Dutch glaze and it does not craze easily. So to sum up: Gritty, thich white glaze, very well painted, crazed ....... Dutch. Smooth, glazed tinged blue or pink, muted colours, little crazing .... English. Now all you have to do is get out there and start looking, but beware - lots of reproductions so take time to do a bit more studying by way of delftware tiles. Also remember, plates, flower bricks, jugs, posset pots, handwarmers, puzzle jugs, char dishes, vases, bowls and beautifully glazed drug jars for use by apothocaries were produced in delftware, but that's another story. We run a small but beautifully formed General Antiques Shop which is situated in Kirkby Lonsdale In the Yorkshire Dales/Cumbria Border. http://www.architus.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Joy_Pearson http://EzineArticles.com/?Antique-Delft-and-Very-Collectible-Tiles-and-Ceramics:-Beginners-Start-Here&id=46911 buy phentermine hcl

Adding some oil to a bath or to massage oil or lotion can assist in easing the strain of tired muscles and leave you feeling better. Spruce oil has long been used as an additive in saunas for its invigorating and clean, woodsy scent. Most people really enjoy the scent of this Therapeutic-Grade Essential Oil and find it less strong and grating than the other evergreen oils. It has a fresh and woody scent that some say has a hint of fruit to it. It is also said that Spruce Oil is a companion oil for the respiratory system. It is thought to help with bronchitis, coughs and asthma. Spruce oil might also be helpful for colds and flu. It is also a good tonic for general weakness and has been used to improve circulation and ease the symptoms of rheumatism. Some people say that Therapeutic-Grade Essential Oil of Spruce is antimicrobial and antiseptic as well. It can be a great first aid item for cleaning wounds and staving off infection. Another use for Spruce Oil is in meditation and yoga. The oil is thought to help clear the mind and sharpen the focus, and may even be helpful in combating symptoms of depression. It is a good choice for a room spritz when you want a room to both smell and feel good, and it blends especially well with other woody essential oils. Just smelling Spruce Therapeutic-Grade Essential Oil reminds some people of Christmas, which can be a calming and relaxing sensation. The oil can be used topically, internally and in aromatic ways. It is best to dilute it when using internally or externally, as skin sensitivity is possible. As with other therapeutic-grade essential oils, you should be careful not to get spruce oil into your eyes. Wash and rinse your hands thoroughly, before and after working with the oil, and avoid using the oil near sparks or open flames. Avoid using Spruce Oil on infants or small children. Keep therapeutic-grade essential oils out of the reach of children. -- This entire article is available for reprint electronically or in print, for free, as long as it is done in its entirety, and the bylines are included. Wedding Party Gift Ideas
By Shirley Tan A number of people play an important part in making your wedding celebration a success. A well chosen wedding party gift is the best way to thank all the people in your wedding party who helped make the day so memorable for you. Here we have some ideas that tell the members of your wedding party, in the best way possible, how much you appreciate their being around on your special day: Wedding party gifts for female attendants (including the Maid of Honor and the Bridesmaids): A favorite gift option for the most important people in your wedding party is jewelry. A simple, yet elegant necklace or bracelet is bound to be loved by all. Consider hair jewelry, like a bejeweled barrette, as well. A variation on this is a decorated jewelry box. For an added personal touch, consider getting it engraved with their names. For Maids of Honor and Bridesmaids who love surrounding themselves with sweet smells, great gift options include a bottle of perfume, votive candles and aromatherapy kits. For those who love looking good, think of gift ideas such as a make-up kit, a manicure and pedicure set or even a spa set. Maids of Honor and Bridesmaids who love good food and wine will love a bottle of fine wine and a box of chocolates. Yet another option for these foodies is a set of gourmet cookbooks or a collection of fine and rare spices or even a set of gourmet teas and coffees. The music lovers in your wedding party are sure to appreciate a set of CDs from their favorite artist just as much as the movie freaks will enjoy a DVD or two. And for those who love to have a good time, a set of margarita glasses or wine glasses works great! A new trend in wedding party gifts is gifting an experience as opposed to a thing. This can include just about anything from a day at the spa to creative classes to concert tickets to a favorite band. Other popular wedding party gifts for your female attendants include handkerchiefs, evening bags, photo frames, stationery, candle-sticks and decorative items. Wedding party gifts for male attendants (including the Best man and the Groomsmen): Its tough enough finding a gift for one guy, so it is understandable if the task of finding gifts for all the men in your wedding party seems practically impossible. But help is at hand - we have for you some great ideas for gifts for the men in your wedding party. Popular wedding party gifts for male attendants include leather wallets, Swiss army knives, cuff links, leather shaving kits and silk ties. For those who are into the great outdoors, gift options include binoculars, camping and hiking gear, fishing gear, protective eye wear and a cool back-pack. Show the sports lovers in your wedding party how much you appreciate their help with some sporting gear like golf or tennis accessories. For the busy executive, a smart organizer, an engraved pen set or business card holder and personalized stationery make great gifts. And almost every guy we know would love to get a cool tool box, a barbecue set or a smart set of beer mugs. Gifted experiences work very well with men too. This could again be anything ranging from a creative class to tickets for the next big game to an adventure trip like white water rafting. How to Choose Toys Your Child Won't Leave in the Box
By Henrietta Joyce Have you have noticed the increased in advertisements for toys on television and everywhere else? And every single toy is educational! Isn't it a wonder that all our children are not mini Einsteins? In this article I will explain - what children learn through play, the benefits of play, different types of play and their value, how play helps the development of a person from babies into adulthood and finally, how to choose age appropriate toys that will provide hours of fun and learning. With this information you will be able to choose toys that will be fun and educational so that your children will learn while they play. What do children learn through play? Why is play vital and why should it be encouraged? Children it is the main way that children learn, in fact for children play is work. Play helps children to communicate ideas, it allows them to develop important skills and also it excites children. Through play our children learn skills and habits that will help them develop into happy, healthy well-balanced adults. For play to be meaningful your child needs your participation. Twenty minutes a day or more is all that's needed to increase your children's development. What are the benefits of play? There are many ways in which children benefit from play. It has been proven by psychologists that children who do not play fail to thrive. For play to be meaningful, children need someone to play with, choice, variety and enthusiasm. The benefits of play can be seen in five areas, they are: Physical Developing co-ordination, physical fitness and health Social learning about friendships, personality and emotions Emotional practicing adult roles through role play Language communication skills, problem solving Cognitive through play children develop an understanding of concepts, group objects and explore different materials Children need a range of toys and materials to develop in all of the five areas. Different types of play and their value Play can take many different shapes and forms however your child needs a balance of all forms in order to develop into a well-rounded adult. Play type can be divided into five main areas: imaginative play, construction, creative play, physical play and board games. Through imaginative play or pretend play children dress up and act out different aspects of daily life. Children learn to tell stories and make sense of daily life experiences. Construction play uses a variety of toys including, duplo, bricks, and train sets and also re-cycled materials such as boxes. Construction toys help children learn about shape, colour and size, improve fine motor skills, problem solve and concentration. Creative play covers a wide range of activities such as painting, drawing, collage (cutting, gluing and sticking), play dough and sewing. Creative play provides opportunities for children to develop manipulative skills, experiment and make choices for themselves. Physical play covers many activities, which can be indoors or outdoors. It can involve large play equipment like bikes, climbing frames, tunnels, smaller toys like bats, balls and hoops or no equipment at all. Physical play is not only healthy but develops large and small motor skills (necessary for muscle control), self-confidence, special awareness and co-operation. Board games and playing cards such as ludo, snap, snakes and ladders provide hours of endless fun and also provide children with an opportunity to develop language skills, turn taking, sharing and how to be a good sport. How does play help children develop into well-balanced adults? I am sure you have met and worked with people who you find difficult to get along with? It could be they lack confidence, have poor communication skills or an inability to work as part of a team. Through play children learn to share and develop their sense of self. Play offers opportunities to develop language, physical, social, emotional, creative and intellectual development that are all vital skills necessary for a productive and happy adult life. Choosing age appropriate, fun, educational toys Choosing age appropriate toys can be confusing, however there are a few questions you can ask yourself that will help you to choose wisely. What is my child interested in? Watch him play and you will find out his preferences. Is the toy safe? Does it have a kite mark? Check the toy is sturdy, has no sharp or jagged edges and for under threes avoid small parts. Am I choosing this toy because I like it or wish I'd been given it when I was a child? Just because you like a toy doesn't mean your child will, remember that you are at least twenty years older than your child. Is it suitable for my child's age and ability? Don't buy toys that manufacturers have labelled as too young or old for your child because they may be either bored or frustrated with it. Will it help my child develop useful skills? (Refer to the above) Will he or she feel the toy is too girlish or boyish? The best way to ensure a child plays with a toy is to make it fun. If you play together with the toy he will enjoy it much more and you will increase the learning potential. Playing with your child makes him or her feel loved and special. Play is essential to a child's develops and growth. Playing with a wide range of toys helps children learn a wide variety of skills that will prepare them for adulthood. Choosing the most appropriate toys for your child is quite simple. Think about safety, take into account her preferences, is it suitable for her age and will it develop a skill? Your enthusiastic participation will establish a special closeness that will resonate throughout both your lives. Dating Coaching: How Can It Help You?
By Gayle Crist When I was divorced in 1995 at age 41 and decided to start dating again, I wish I knew there was such a thing as a dating coach! After 16 years married to the same man and only four significant relationships before marriage, I was not too savvy about dating in general. And I was totally clueless about dating etiquette in the 90s, who might be a good partner for me at this stage of my life, and places where a single mother of two could meet someone whod be interested in her. I couldve used some guidance from someone with experience in navigating the over-40 dating worldwhich is why, after I remarried, I decided to become a coach and help people in that very same boat! A dating coach is a personal life coach whose main niche is helping you find the love of your life. Rather than a matchmaker, shes someone who helps you find and navigate various avenues for meeting other single people, prepare yourself for having a relationship by getting healthier emotionally and being who you want to attract, and clarify your vision of a compatible partnerso you can more easily spot that person when he/she arrives. The various avenues for meeting can include online dating, speed dating, singles groups, regional singles events, and dating services. The coach has researched and/or personally experienced good examples of each of these in your area, so she can provide information for you to use in making informed decisions about the best dating options to try. An online dating coach helps you write effective, results-oriented online profiles; choose the most appropriate dating sites for finding your type of person; draft your initial e-mails to prospects; and rethink your choice of sites if youre not getting the results you want. She also helps you stay upbeat and motivated if you get discouraged in yoursearch and to believe in yourself when you lose confidence. In the area of confidence, a dating coach helps you see yourself as a great catch and reminds you of that whenever disappointments get you down. Youll always have more success in attracting dates when youre feeling good about yourself, so your coach makes sure you do. She reminds you of your assets at every opportunity and is your biggest cheerleader every step of the way. She helps you plan and stick to action steps you name as you work toward your goal of finding a partner. She wants you to succeed in that quest as much as you do! In my case, Im so happy in my new marriage that I want everyone else to be this happy too, and I LOVE helping people find what I have by avoiding the mistakes I made along the way. In short, dating coaching can help save you time, money and aggravation along the road to love. Youll have the moral support you want and need to keep going as you navigate the ups and downs and natural cycles of learning more about yourself and what kind of relationship is best for you at whatever dating stage youre at. For more information about dating coaching, visit www.healthylifeplanning.com Gayle P. Crist, M.S., founder and president of HealthyLife Planning, is a personal coach based in Doylestown, PA. Gayle knows from personal experience how hard it is for older singles to find partners nowadays. Married for 16 years prior to her divorce in 1995, she was a single mom for 10 years before meeting her 2nd husband online at age 50. She says love the 2nd time around is amazing and adores helping others make the same discovery! Sexual Problems In Relationships (2A) - Differing Gender Approaches
By Elaine Sihera Both parties in any relationship, especially when the couples are older, bring a long sexual history, different instincts and preconceptions to the overall sexual experience. One partner may have masturbated almost daily since he first discovered his body and had fantasies of having intercourse with many different people. He might also have heard various stories about sex from friends, movies, parents, teachers, books etc., while the other partner may have been more sheltered and ignorant, or perhaps just stroked herself curiously without any sexual fantasies. Taken together, it means the likelihood of a big difference in self-knowledge and sexual confidence between any one couple. According to one male writer, Most inexperienced males imagine that really good sex consists of getting the woman partly undressed and then thrusting an enormous penis in and out of her vagina until they both explode simultaneously with a fantastic orgasm. But nothing could be further from the truth. The fantasy ends there because of the many hurdles awaiting us before that final conclusion. Being preoccupied with penis size, many men believe that the bigger the better. But that is a definite myth. Really great sex is not about penetration or penis size. It is more about what a man actually does with that penis when both partners are fully aroused. Our brain and our hands are far more erotic sexual tools than a penis on its own could ever hope to be! In fact, an inexperienced young woman is unlikely to be turned on by a penis at all and even less by its size! Until she understands and appreciates its usefulness, she may be scared of touching it and might even be repulsed by it, even though the man is likely to think that his penis is the greatest thing in the world, one which no woman can possibly do without! Romance and the Trimmings
A woman is likely to be more stimulated by the emotion of the moment, the romance, the attention, the kisses, the caresses, the feeling of being wanted and being greatly appealing difficult elements to label or put into words. Most women interviewed insist that warm, loving, emotional connections between themselves and their partners are essential to, and inseparable from, the experience of sexual ecstasy. Thus a well-romanced woman is a well-lubricated one and an explosion waiting to happen! This difference in sexual approach is the first misunderstanding between the two genders. For this main reason, the first sexual encounters are usually fraught with danger. To begin with, most women view romance as the biggest turn-on to enjoying intercourse. As a prelude to any sex, a woman may fantasise about romantic settings in which she might be holding hands, talking, laughing, dancing, etc. Later on, the nice-looking, sweet-talking confident lover, with the great sense of humour (not the great penis!) admires her appeal and tells her about his feelings, his need for love, perhaps their future together, etc. She imagines being held tightly and kissed over and over, with perhaps some gentle caressing of various parts of her body. Eventually he undresses her and they have sex, but that isnt the end of her story. After love-making, she imagines being held, comforted and told that sex has brought them even closer. She expects reassurance that she was an exciting sex partner and that he will now want to do many other routine things with her, not just desire her body! The man in the same situation is likely to perceive it most differently, especially if he just wants to have 'fun' and fancies a 'quick shag. The fewer preliminaries, the better. Wining, dining and dancing are often regarded as necessary preludes that the man wants to conclude, sooner rather than later, in order to cut to the chase and get on with the action. Sex for women might be an integral part of an emotional connection, and take a long time to master, but many men do not necessarily need to put the two elements together for their satisfaction! The Perfect Bridal Makeup for Your Wedding Day
By Sher Matsen Its important that your makeup look its absolute best for your wedding day. Whether you plan to marry on a beach at noon or at night under the stars, by keep your makeup simple you will look and feel great. You dont want to much, nor too little, a natural look is very important. This is not the time to be experimenting with new looks. Your makeup should enhance your beauty not hide it. Here are some tips to help with you achieve your pefect bridal makeup:
If you are having a facial done, make sure it is at least two weeks prior to your wedding.
If your skin is prone to breakouts, see your dermatologist 3 or 4 months before your wedding
Staying hydrated is important to keeping you looking refreshed. Drinking lots of water will also flush out impurities from the skin.
Eyebrows should be shaped 5-7 days before the wedding. Be sure not to pluck on your wedding day because you could land up with unattractive red bumps that are difficult to cover.
On your wedding day blend your makeup well and let set. You do not need extra makeup to please the camera thats a myth.
Choose a lipstick that lasts. Apply just prior to walking down the isle. Go easy on the lip liner. Be sure to check that you dont have lipstick on your teeth.
Line and fill mouth with a neutral pencil to make lipstick stay on longer.
To lengthen wearing time of your lipstick, apply a light layer of powder over your lipstick then apply another layer of lipstick
If you are doing your own makeup, see a beauty consultant and purchase your make up at least 3 months in advance. Then practice until youve got the perfect makeup.
Waterproof mascara is a great idea just incase you get a little weepy.
A very light application of facial powder will set your makeup and reduce
Keep your powder, mascara, and lipstick in your purse so you can freshen up at a moments notice.
If you discover that dreaded pimple on your wedding day, do not squeeze it! Just apply a drop of visene to get the red out, cover with concealer, and apply foundation.
Wear a button shirt when applying your makeup so you dont mess up your makeup. When slipping into your gown put a towel over your face so you dont get makeup on your wedding dress.
Avoid glittery or dewy looks these are not very receptive for photographs and you may come out looking greasy
If your wedding is outside be sure to apply sunscreen first
Water based foundation looks most natural in photos
For eye contouring, apply a dark but neutral in the crease of the eye. You can line the upper and lower lids (optional) with brown or grey shadow, smudging the outer corners
If you need to make your eyes look wider or brighter, use a white pencil to line the inside of the lower lids.
Don't get too much sun before your wedding. Sunburns, peeling skin and tan lines can sabotage your special day.
Make certain your wedding photographer is not using grainy film, because no matter how good your makeup is, with grainy film it will not look good
Make sure your wedding photographer is using high quality film so your photos do your wedding makeup justice
For your makeup to look good in your photos, it must be completely matte and in neutral tones, brides usually prefer a little color. Pastels look soft and pretty, but avoid glitter, shimmer and frosted eyeshadows.
Shine is the #1 enemy for photos.
Dont apply white or black eye shadow
Olive complexions should not use gray shades
Pale complexions should not use vibrant colors.

Make A Stunning Dried Hydrangea Wreath
By Valerie Garner Dried hydrangea wreaths are so beautiful and versatile
in a home, and a lot of fun to make as well. You can either purchase already dried hydrangea flowers
from your local craft store, or you can dry your own.
The biggest trick when drying your own is the timing of
when you pick the flowers. It is best to pick them
right before you anticipate your first fall frost. If
you pick them mid-summer, they just will not dry
correctly. You can either hang them upside down in a darkened room
to dry, or you can set them in a vase upright, even
adding a tiny bit of water in the bottom of the vase,
although even that is optional. As long as they are
picked at the correct time, its difficult to fail with
them. Its fun if you can, to pick several blooms
from different bushes, as it will provide a nice
variety of colors to the wreath. After they are
dried, pick off any dead / discolored brown blooms. Now, pick the type of base you want to use for a
wreath. My personal favorites are either Styrofoam or
grapevine type wreath bases. Take some floral wire
and wrap it around the wreath, then form a loop of the
wire to hang from the wall, and then wrap the wreath
again. You might try hanging it from the wall at this
point to make sure it lies correctly, and then make any
needed adjustments while the wreath is bare. To do a Styrofoam wreath, use a low melt point hot glue
gun. Separate each bloom into smaller florets. Hot
glue each floret into the wreath base, actually poking
the stem down into the Styrofoam base. With each
bloom, space it out over the surface of the wreath, for
example; a floret at the top, next left side, bottom,
then right side, then inside the circle of the wreath,
and outside of the wreath. Continue to do this with
each bloom until you fill it. Balance is what you are looking for. Balance in
shape, you dont want any sticking out way above the
others, you dont want one side of the wreath to be
fuller than the other. Try stepping back and looking
at a distance and just think balance of shape. The second area to look for is balance of color. This
is the purpose of doing each bloom all over, then
filling in, so you achieve that balance of color.
Give another once over to check on that. Now, this wreath is either finished, or you can add
perhaps add small sprigs of dried babys breath to it. Really depends on the look you want. Sometimes the
simplicity of only the hydrangeas is stunning. For a grapevine wreath, its the same principal but a
different look. You can tie a bow on the wreath if
you want (if you do, do so before adding flowers), or
ribbon. I like to leave bare spaces on these to be
able to see the grapevine portion as well. Again,
look for balance. You can also add dried roses to it
or any other type of dried flowers or grasses too.
You can get really creative with these and come up with
very different looks. Experiment to your hearts
content. Many times people expect dried floral arrangements to
last forever, and are disappointed when they start
looking bad after a few years. This is a
misconception. Expect them to look good for about a
year, thats really about all they were meant to last. If they are in direct sunlight it will be a much
shorter time. However, the next year, feel free to
strip the old flowers off, and make another with the
same base for another years worth of a gorgeous hand
made wreath! By Valerie Garner-Mother, grandmother and candlemaker /

Give A Memorable Best Man Speech And Be The Toast Of The Wedding
By Simon Ekizian You cant sleep and havent eaten since breakfast. Your palms are sweaty and you cant concentrate. Tomorrow is the wedding day and you are completely unprepared. No, youre not getting married, youre the best man! Think getting married is hard? Youre not the one who has to give the speech. To a man, everyone Ive ever talked to that has been a best man in a wedding, and this includes myself, considered it a nerve racking and stomach pain inducing task. Lets face it, almost all of us hate public speaking. And no event is bigger in our lives than a wedding. With all of the money spent and planning involved, we as best men want to add something to the big day instead of subtract something with an awful speed. Here are some tips for making your best man speech all it can be. First, make it personal. Always, and I mean always, include a funny anecdote that is personal to you and the groom. Depending how long youve known each other, this can be from when you were kids right up through your college years. Is the groom your brother? How about recalling an incident when you both incurred your parents wrath? You may want to steer clear of bachelor party stories on this one! Second, keep it short and sweet. I cant tell you how many best man speeches Ive heard that started off great and had the crowd in hysterics, only to teeter off into the 30th minute. Five minutes is probably the longest you want to go. Third, humor, humor and more humor! Trust me, you need to loosen everyone up with a little (or lot of) humor. Its a tense day for everyone and humor is just what everyone needs. From the bride and groom to all of the guests, a funny joke (without being mean spirited) or humorous anecdote will get the party started. Fourth, finish up with some sentimentality. Youve laid the brickwork with your funny story, now have everyone in the palm of your hand with a heartfelt finish. Relate what an honor this is, how much the bride and groom are meant to each other or both. Tell everyone what a great friend the groom is to you and what a special day this is. Finally, implore everyone to raise their glass for a toast to the bride and groom. Follow these simple guidelines and you should be in great shape. Simon Brady is the webmaster for Executive Gift Shoppe, offering a great selection of personalized men's gifts, including groomsmen gifts, desk sets, cufflinks and other mens accessories. Three Areas To Look For Help
By Lynn Bradley There are so much evil and violence in this world. Many are trapped by it and are desperate for help. We can help offset the turmoil by giving assistance to others. We should accept help when we need it and help others when we can. This article may be published if the resource box is left unaltered. Sometimes life throws us a curve that we cannot handle. When there is no solution is sight, we need assistance. Everyone needs help sometimes. There are three areas that we can turn to. There are many people in the world, who have run up against a stone wall. They have tried everything they have at their disposal and have lost all hope. Some are addicted to drugs, or alcohol, others are over their head in debt and some are starving or have other problems. One area to look for help is inside your own heart. If you are addicted to drugs or alcohol or helplessly in debt you need to stop the self destruction. You need to stop drinking or taking drugs, or if in debt, you need to stop spending money you dont have. You need to start eliminating debts, the largest first. Whatever the situation that has caused you to be desperate, the decision to take action must come from inside you. No one else can initiate it. They might advise us to do it, but it will not happen until you tell yourself you have to do it. Life will not get any better until you turn things around. After you realize, you need to take action, it brings you to another area to look for help. You can seek help from others. Those addicted to alcohol or drugs can go to a detox center. Alcoholics can also check in with Alcoholics Anonymous or other such institutions. If you are helplessly in debt, you need to be careful where you seek help. Check out institutions that claim they can pay off all your bills and give you one easy payment each month. Some of them may take advantage of your situation and charge high rates. Compare several places and ask for references. After you start one of these programs, dont get into any
more debt, or you will be in worse shape than before. Also, inquire about other options. Those who dont have enough finances for necessities can turn to the Red Cross, churches, and other places that help the needy. Sometimes unfortunate circumstances beyond your control put you in such a situation and you should not be ashamed to ask for help. Everyone deserves help when they need it. If you are in that situation, you need to take action. Babies know where to look for help. They look to their mother when they are hungry. Dogs that have their leash tied to an object, often walk around it until they are tangled up and cant move. They dont know to retrace their steps, but they know to look to their master to get unstuck. A Bumble bee that gets into the bottom of a glass will look for a way out near the bottom, but does not know to look up to find freedom. Some people are like the bumble bee. They dont realize they can look up for help. This brings us to another area to look for help. You can look above. You have a God who has promised to supply all your needs. All you have to do is ask. My help comes from the Lord (PS 121:2). He will see to it that your work will supply your necessities. If you cannot work, he will send help through compassionate believers. You just have to trust him and obey his commands. The birds of the air do not sow or reap but your heavenly father feeds them, and are you not more valuable than they are? God clothes the grass of the field, will he not much more clothe you (MT 6:26-30)? These are the words of Jesus. You can be sure that looking above will bring relief. Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things (COL 3:2). This will permit you to see beyond your problems, and have a different perspective. You will be given the peace of mind to solve your problems one at a time without fearing failure. The author of this article also wrote, Climbing the Heavenly Stairs. Tooth Whitening Kits
By Jason Gluckman Tooth-whitening kits are meant to provide lasting results in the shortest possible time. The existing cultural demand to have clean and attractive teeth has given rise to a surge of new tooth-whitening kits in the consumer market. These tooth-whitening kits are easily available online and can be bought at more or less the same prices as other, less effective tooth-whitening products. These kits vary from small plastic kits placed on the tooth overnight to professionally designed tooth trays that let the bleaching gel become absorbed into the enamel. Typically, in a bleach-based tooth whitener kit, a tooth bleaching agent is applied to a mouth tray, and then the tray is inserted into the mouth. Most of these trays have to be worn for just an hour. A major disadvantage of this method is the need to sit for an hour or so with the mouth open. The whiter the teeth have to be, the longer the need to maintain the same tiring position. It is possible to get some very good tooth-whitening kits today. Some have a uniquely balanced formula that releases active oxygen to brighten and whiten teeth safely and naturally. With a neutral pH, unlike some similar products which are acidic, this is soft on the teeth. Tooth-whitening kits contain xylitol, a powerful anticaries agent to prevent tooth decay, and potassium, which creates a de-sensitizing effect that is ideal for people with sensitive gums. Home tooth-whitening kits are similar to those that a dental professional would use; the difference is that the concentrations of active ingredients in these are lower. Higher concentrations are permitted in an office formula since those are applied by a professional who understands how it works and who has precise control over the application. The latest clinical studies show that tooth-whitening kits are harmless when used as directed. Hence, based on the available scientific information, it can be safely concluded that there is no cause for concern about the possible adverse effects on tooth structure or enamel hardness. Tooth Whitening provides detailed information on Tooth Whitening, Professional Tooth Whitening, Laser Tooth Whitening, Tooth Whitening Systems and more. Tooth Whitening is affiliated with Philadelphia Cosmetic Dentists. Sacred Love - Knowing What You Can't Change in People
By Christopher Walker Love others, but love yourself also. Go out! The world is beautiful, adventurous; it is a challenge, it enriches. Don't lose that opportunity! Whenever the world knocks at your door and calls you, go out! Go out fearlessly - there is nothing to lose, there is everything to gain. But don't get lost. Don't go on and on and get lost. Sometimes come back home. Sometimes forget the world, those are the moments of meditation. Each day, if you want to become balanced, you should balance the outer and the inner. They should carry the same weight, so that inside you never become lopsided. This is the meaning when Zen masters say, "Walk in the river, but don't allow the water to touch your feet.", "Be in the world, but don't be of the world.", "Be in the world but don't allow the world to be in you. When you come home, you come home as if the whole world has disappeared." You cant change another person. You cant change another person, you can only love them for who they are. This is a great awareness. Remember, people become as you treat them. Respecting that someone might not be having their best day, or month, or year, it is wisest to say, Your stress is not my stress, I love you for who you are, not for who you can become. Always trying to change people has a hidden statement in it, and that is, you will be more lovable, better, if you change. And that is just not true. You can change what another person does. You can lock the front door and make them go out the back door, but you cant change another person. You cant change yourself You cant change yourself, and frankly why would you really want to. You deserve to be loved for who you are. To spend the whole of your life wanting to change yourself means that you can never find stillness or contentment. There is nothing that needs to be changed, only loved. You cant change yourself, you can only change what you think about yourself; to know, that you are worthy of love is the key to it. You can change how you look, but you cant change who you are. You can change how you act, or what you do, but you cant change who you are, you can only change how you think about it. You cant change your constitution Your constitution is determined at birth. Its the same one you have when you die. Your body type determines the lifestyle, career, relationship and environment you are going to thrive in, sustain. You cant change the world The world is functioning perfectly, thank you very much. This is a great key to having peace of mind. This doesnt mean that everybody who is trying to change the world is wrong. No. It means that everybody who is trying to change the world is a part of a system. That system is the laws of nature at work. For every force, there is an equal and opposite force. So, every protestor is the counterweight to some other force. And the net result is always balance. There are those who chop the trees, and there are those who dont want the trees chopped. You cant stop emotion Emotion is to our life, as the wind is to the forest. If there were no wind in the forest, then it would die. Wind shakes the limbs from the trees and rattles the roots to bind in the earth. Wind cleans yesterday, and makes room for tomorrow. In your life, emotion is precious. It is the motion of romance, the passion of work, the inspiration of art, the safety of fear, the conscience of guilt, the compassion of care. Yes, emotion is everything good. And, emotion is everything bad. It is the cruelty of torture, the righteousness of discrimination, the suffering of pain and the misery of grief. Emotions are the torture of jealousy, the coldness of violence and the darkness of depression. It you stop one, you stop the other. If you create one, you create the other. You cant eliminate a trait Nature never destroys anything, she simply builds a new one on top, greater in consciousness, less in number. This means the old you and the new you are the same you, you simply put a new layer on top of the old one, a bit smarter, and less reactive. But if the circumstances of the new you changed, and you experienced what the old you experienced, youd be exactly the same as you were. Lets say you judged someone for being dishonest to you. That implies that you are not dishonest, right? It implies that the other person should be more honest. So, they promise to be more honest. But are they? There are seven areas of life, spiritual, mental, social, financial, career, health and relationship. Now this dishonest person promises to be honest in relationship. So they tell the truth, but does that mean that they are honest everywhere? No. That idea is completely false. They might be challenged by the relationship because of the honesty you demand, and therefore, not be so honest in their friendships because now they need friends more than before. Or they may no be honest with their money or certain fantasies. We can change how and when we use a trait, but please, dont delude yourself that the trait is gone away. I remember a yoga student in India. Whenever we were all practicing our asana, he was a very spiritual type, always holding his hands in front of his chest with supplication. So humble, so much reverence. But when someone had an affair with his girlfriend, he went after them to kill them. When asked about it he said, They deserve to be hurt. Justification let his otherwise hidden violence out. You must always be cautious of pious or new age people who look like they are very peaceful. I promise, by the laws of nature, they just changed the form of their violence to justify it. One lady was a vegan, she ate only things she couldnt harm because her Krishna teaching told her so. But she had been a very violent person in her youth, having lots of drugs and sex, so she was really burying her past under a blanket of a belief system. She was all peaceful and dressed so nicely. But she was a control addict. She was so paranoid about her husband. She was vicious in attacking people who ate meat. All her rage was channeled into herself and into that religious persecution because it was justified in her faith to criticise non-vegetarian people. You cant hold the moral high ground If you think you can claim the moral high ground in a relationship or business, you are going to take a severe fall. Just remember that you cant be right without wrong. Taking one side of an argument and trying to win is war. It means you can only win by force. Then you cant relax either, because that force will not hold without you there to sustain it. So, an argument you win, you only win while you are there to fight it. Behind your own back, they will not stay in that lost space, they will resent you. Taking the higher ground is an impossible mission! You cant stop loving someone Even if you meet someone for 1 second and love them, you cant take it back because there is no it. Love is not an it, love cannot be given and taken, otherwise love would be sold in shops. No, love is love, beyond control, beyond your mind. Love cannot be given and taken. Love is. The only thing that you can do is get in the way by emotionalising the situation so you cant feel the love. Then you wonder why you life is not what it used to be, or you are not on purpose, because you are running from love. You cant change the past You cant change the past, only what you think about it. And what you think about it is only relevant to you and your future. What you judge in the past, affects your future. The past was perfect; your opinion about it might not be perfect. You can see love in the past if you change what you think, but you cant make the past without love, because that is not true. You cant change your life purpose You are born with a purpose greater than you, and youll die with the same one. Everything you do in your life is about manifesting that purpose, and everything you sabotage is about thinking you are not on purpose. Even if people dont know their purpose, they still follow this formula. When you stop praying for what you think is missing, and simply attune yourself to the extraordinary richness, the quality and the love that are at the core if your heart the ocean itself becomes apparent, and all the rest is just the debris that floats on the surface. All debris, it is dead; The ocean is what is alive. http://www.chriswalker.com.au Chris Walker is a world leading change agent, an environmentalist and author of more than 20 books. Your Source on Eczema, the Cause of Eczema, and Effective Eczema Cream
By Amy-Jo Strutt The patch of dry, red skin on your baby is likely eczema. Although anyone can get it at any age, it most often appears during infancy. But what exactly is the cause of eczema? There are many things that come into contact with your skin that can irritate it but the most common are, rubbing the skin, moisture from saliva or milk, overheating or sweating, wool or other scratchy fabrics, common house dust, cat or dog dander, smoke, harsh detergents or soaps and water. Now if your infant shows signs of eczema, the sooner you eliminate any of the above, the quicker you may be able to get it under control. You can buy prescription or non prescription eczema cream but the one of the safest is plain old petroleum jelly such as Vaseline. Apply as often as necessary to keep the skin soft and supple. Now if you or your little one has a flare up of eczema, here are some things to do to keep it under control. First, limit that amount of time you spend in the bath tub, shower or swimming pool. Second, make sure to moisturizer a lot. Apply eczema cream or petroleum jelly as often as necessary. Keeping the rash moist will help clear it up quicker. Third, wear cotton clothing as much as possible. Fourth, stay cool and try to minimize the amount of sweating. If you need to work out, use good judgment and dont over do it. Finally, try not to scratch. You may not know the cause of eczema but hopefully these tips will help. If you face an eczema inflamed cycle, you may need to treat it with more than just Vaseline. The recommended suggestion is to buy an over the counter cortisone cream. Now it is not recommended for everyday use, but it can be effective in breaking the cycle. Eczema cream with cortisone includes Cortaid and Hydrocortisone. These are relatively mild and should do the trick. Once the cycle is broken, reduce the amount applied and gradually stop. A recommendation is to track in a notebook what is the cause of eczema and discuss this with your doctor. It is also recommended that you meet with your doctor before any prescription or nonprescription moisturizers are used. Silk Wedding Flowers are the New Wedding Flowers
By Charlena Stadelman If you are getting married soon, you are going to find out that silk wedding flowers are the new and improved flower to have at any wedding. Hardly any brides will use real flowers anymore. This is because the silk flowers will last longer, and they can be used over and over after the wedding is over and done with. This is a great reason to use silk flowers, and they will stay looking pretty even weeks after the wedding. You are also going to find that the bouquet the bride carries down the aisle are all being made from silk wedding flowers as well. This is an excellent idea, because then the bride will have the bouquet for many years after her wedding to remind her of the flowers she carried on that special day. Once the wedding is over, and you and your husband go home together, you will find that your silk wedding flowers will look pretty and remind you of your special day while you spread them all over the house. Putting a bouquet in each room will bring back memories of not too long ago when you walked down the aisle. You can also take a few of the flower petals and add them to your wedding scrapbook as well. This is a great idea for preserving those wedding day memories. It has also been heard of that wedding cakes have been decorated with the silk wedding flowers as well. Not only the church your getting married in, but the cake that you will eat and serve your guest at your wedding. Of course the flowers can not be eaten, but they will make your wedding cake very pretty, and make your special day even more enjoyable. You may even find that you will want the flower girl to drop silk wedding flowers as she is walking down the aisle on your wedding day. This will save you some money when you are paying for wedding expenses, and the flowers will be gorgeous even tho they are made of silk. None of the guest will be able to tell the difference, and you will love the flowers that are dropped down the aisle just the same. As you can see, the silk wedding flowers are sweeping across the states and becoming the new thing for wedding flowers. While they are a little more affordable, you will also find that they are quite practical, as well. Everyone will love your wedding flowers that match the colors of your wedding, and so will you. Cross Pollination & How Plants Attract Insects for Pollination - from a South African Perspective
By Andrew Smit How cross-pollination of plants takes place Everything inside a flower is arranged to make pollination possible. This operation involves the transfer of pollen from the anthers of the stamens to the pistil. It is very rare, however, that the pollen produced by one flower is used to fertilize the pistil in the same flower. Instead, flowers are designed to obtain pollen from other plants and their flowers. This enables better seed and fruits to be produced and is known as cross-pollination. Its usefulness was demonstrated by the great naturalist, Charles Darwin, in 1859. Cross-pollinating flowers occasionally have their pollen waiting on the stamens before the pistil is ready to take it; or the pistil may be ready but the stamens have produced no pollen. Some plants produce flowers with stamens only (male flowers) while others produce flowers with only pistils (female flowers). These plants are pollinated with the help of the wind which blows the pollen grains through the air. Such plants produce huge amounts of pollen because much of it is lost in the air and only a small quantity finally reaches its proper destination. How plants attract insects for pollination Some plants entrust their pollen to the winds. Others use water as a carrier and still others simply pollinate themselves. However in most cases the vital task of pollination is left up to insects. To attract insects plants produce flowers that have beautiful scents and colours. The shape of the flowers corolla, the part with the petals, is designed to let pollinating insects in but keep out other unwelcome creatures. Sometimes the pollinating mechanism inside a flower is amazingly complex. An example is the sage flower: when a bee is attracted by the scent or the nectar, it stands on the lowest petal to enter the flower. As it does so, the bee presses on a kind of lever which makes the flowers stamens come down and touch the hairy back of the bee, covering it with pollen. The bee then enters another flower and the whole operation is repeated. The sage is one of those plants that lets its stamens ripen before its pistils. So when the bee lands on a flower where the stamens and the anthers have withered away, there is a pistil waiting to pick up the pollen from the bees back to fertilize itself http://www.turtleherbestate.co.za where you will find Global solutions and ideas.

Lose 104 Pounds In A Year
By Deirdre Jones Did you ever think about the fact that losing 2 pounds a week adds up to 104 pounds a year? That's a LOT of weight. Sooo.... Let's say that you have only about 20 to 30 pounds to drop. You could safely lose that extra weight in 10 to 15 weeks, or about 2 1/2 to 3 months. I think that's a pretty handy thing to know. Why you shouldn't try to drop weight too quickly First of all, your body tends to want to retain weight; and the first weight that drops off is usually water weight, or fluid weight. So that 10 pounds that you drop so effortlessly and gain back just as quickly is probably just extra fluid. Even if you try to starve yourself, your metabolism will just slow to a crawl, and make it that much more difficult to drop weight. Your body thinks it needs that extra fuel (weight) for survival. Slow and Steady Wins the Race "Slow and Steady..." says the tortoise. Okay, now how do you do this? Well, lasting weight loss means improving your eating habits and yes, exercising. This takes time and effort. This is one reason why quick weight loss is usually followed by quick weight gain - you haven't had enough time to develop good eating and exercise habits. You can start by not skipping meals. This slows your metabolism even further. Try to eat five or six small meals a day to keep your metabolism revved up and burning those calories. Exercise - think you just don't have the time? How about a quick ten minute walk two or three times a day? That adds up to 20 to 30 minutes of exercise a day. And you get the same benefits as exercising all at once. As a matter of fact, you get your metabolism going more often when you break exercise into manageable chunks. Slow and steady weight loss is beneficial to your body AND helps you to adjust to new eating and exercise habits. Besides, with everything else in life rushing by, why not slow something down? You'll feel great when that weight drops off and stays off, to the tune of 104 pounds in only a year. Get weight loss and diet information from http://www.seeweightlossresults.com. Cost Effective Events Management
By Calvin Warr Running events has always been a key marketing activity for many companies. But they are expensive and time consuming. Here are some tips that will result in cost savings and maybe some new ideas. There are many different types of events. They could be as simple as a tea party for 10 of your best customers to elaborate, international exhibitions and shows. However, there are several key elements that are present in almost all event management scenarios. Two of the most obvious would be the Venue and the Program. Unfortunately, many marketing managers fail to see these as important elements. Many hours and days are spent mulling over the theme, the objectives and the myriads other details. As any experience event planner will tell you, good venues are hard to find. Really hard. So many companies spend so much time and effort with the planning that they forget to place a booking first. Most places will allow you an opportunity to cancel with no penalties within a given time frame. You should maximise this. Get the venue you think you want locked in as early as possible. Even if you change your mind later and have to pay some penalty, it is better than having the best plans, and no where to run with it. Another area which deserves more attention than it usually gets is the Program for the Event. Some of you might be scratching your head a little over this statement, as most of the time, the talk is about nothing but the program. True. Yet, not quite. Let's take a simple example. A press conference. Everyone knows what that is, how it is run, and all its little details. But you see, the program is not the one that goes like this: Guest Arrival
Cocktails
Welcome Speech
Presentation
Question & Answer
Farewell Is that your program? Most likely, many will nod, or shake your head. "I don't have a cocktail". Methinks you are missing the point. This is usually the "program" that most people think about. But as THE organiser, your program looks much different from this. You have a Project Plan for the entire event, right? Well, think of your Program as a branch of your project plan. "Guest Arrival" is good enough for the guests, but what does it tell you about when your staff needs to be in position? Gifts need to arrive? Top Management's arrival time, VIP arrivals and so on? It's all in the Project Plan. Right. And everyone has a copy of your 50 page Project Plan and will be lugging it around during this posh little Press Conference. I think not. Therefore, you will need to create a separate Program specially for your own staffers so that they will all be "in the know" of the actual going-ons during the entire event. One last point. This one is more relevant if your event is held in a Hotel or Resort. Keep in mind that the Hotel or Resort will be almost as anxious as you are, for the event to be a success. You should use this to your advantage. Basically, you can leverage off their resources and their experience to help make your planning and execution smoother and more professional. But a caution here. YOU should still be in charge. Some managers/executives make the mistake of relying so much on this assistance, that in the end, they come out looking like incompetent bunglers who need to lean on the "professionals" to get things done. How to Select the Right Size Filter For Your Swimming Pool
By Mark Best There is a lot to know when you are a pool owner. Luckily there are resources and articles such as this that can help reduce the complexity. Even if you are just keeping a contractor honest it is important to be a smart pool owner. This article helps simplify the selection of the right size filter for your swimming pool. The correct filter size depends on the size of the pool. To maintain a good water clarity you must run the pump each day so that all the water in the pool is turned over once. All filters have gallon per minute design rating and turnover rate. The minimum turnover rate for your pool is one that turns over the entire pool once in at least 10 hours. A turnover rate of 8 or 10 hours is the typical sizing rates for pools today. The first thing that you need to know is how many gallons of water are in your pool. A 4' deep 24' round pool has 13,500 gallons. Knowing this you can now select a correctly rated filter. Choose a filter that would at a minimum turn your pool over i 10hrs. With filters it is OK to go bigger. Larger filter areas will help maintain good water clarity. As an example: A 24 foot round above-ground pool has approximately 13,500 gallons. A Hayward S166T Sand Filter has a 10hr turnover rate of 18,000 gallons and would work well with this pool. Fall Garden Chores for Spring Flowering Bulbs
By Ed Rooney As the school busses begin to rumble down the road again we are reminded that the gardening season is drawing to a close. For the gardener with an eye toward next spring, however, the season still promises plenty to be done in preparation of a showy spring to come. Early fall is the time when we should be planting our bulbs. Good soil drainage is paramount for spring-blooming bulb success. If you have a mostly clay soil be sure to mix in organic material such as compost to lighten the soil. The soil pH should be between 6 and 7. If you need assistance in determining your soil pH or in discovering how to manage its level refer to your local agricultural extension service for help. Spring flowering bulbs are great for beds, in borders, and in rock gardens. These early risers prefer to be planted in areas which will not receive direct sunlight during the midday, especially once the hot summer months roll back around. Wait until soil temperatures are below 60 F (16 C) before planting. If you purchase your bulbs before the cold season sets in you may keep them in your refrigerator until the soil has cooled sufficiently. The fall planting ensures the bulbs will have adequate opportunity to develop a strong root system before they come up in the spring and early summer to greet you. When you are ready to plant your bulbs, follow the directions carefully for the depth and spacing requirements and be certain to loosen the soil beneath the depth of planting. The easiest fertilization method for your spring bulbs is a single application of a sulfur-coated, slow-release fertilizer incorporated into the bottom of your bulb hole at planting time. After having placed the bulbs in their new home, begin to cover them with the soil you removed to dig the hole. When you have covered the bulbs halfway give them a thorough soaking before covering them with the remaining soil. With such wonderful options as corn lily, grape hyacinth and tulips your work will be rewarded in the spring with the finest of gardening pleasures. The joy can possibly only be compared to the sound of the school busses rumbling down the road. Organic Vegetable Gardening For Beginners
By Mary Hanna To be successful at organic vegetable gardening you must draw up detailed plans. The soil is your first consideration; how to make it rich and fertile, and how to prepare it so harmful pests won't attack your vegetable garden. The two ways that organic vegetable gardening differs from conventional gardens is the usage of fertilizer and how to keep pests under control. Phosphorous, nitrogen and potassium are the three components essential to your organic garden. For lush, green foliage you must have nitrogen. For strong roots and stems phosphorus is needed. And for the important protection from disease and brief cold snaps, potassium is a must. Let's call them the big three. The big three are available in commercial fertilizers however they are synthetic. In organic vegetable gardening the big three are added in a much different way. The best way of enriching your soil is by compost. Dig some pits in your back yard to start your compost from kitchen refuse. Use things like pine needles, corn stalks, leaves, carrot tops, fruits or vegetables that have spoiled, manure, egg shells and coffee grinds. Some organic gardeners use weeds in their compost but I do not recommend this for obvious reasons. As the compost materials decompose they release bacteria and fungi into the soil that you are preparing. The bacteria and fungi convert nutrients like nitrogen to ammonia and nitrates that will be usable for your vegetables. Use substances such as seaweed, potash salts, tobacco stems and wood ash to help make potassium in your compost. By making your own compost, you are controlling the mixture and balance to achieve the right combination for your organic vegetable garden. To be absolutely sure that your compost has completely broken down and is now offering up the right balance, start working it into the soil at least two weeks before you plan on planting. The pH in the soil must be right for healthy plants. Test your soil, if it has a ph of 0 it is very acidic, while a 14 is extreme alkaline. Of course a seven indicates neutral soil. To raise the pH of the soil inexpensively use ground limestone. An additional benefit of the limestone is that it contains magnesium something that most soils lack. If, on the other hand, you have extreme alkaline soil use sulpher to bring the pH down. Pest control in organic vegetable gardening is also different that conventional gardening. In many conventional beds gardeners wish to eradicate all pests with pesticides. Many in organic gardening only wish to keep the pest population down so to have a balance in the garden. Obviously, whenever possible, plant pest resistant vegetables. In order for harmful organisms to grow, they need bright sunlight so keep thick mulch around the plants to deny the organisms that needed sunlight and to help hold moisture into the ground. If you find you have a heavy infestation here is a natural pest control formula: In a jar, combine 1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid and 1 cup vegetable oil. Shake vigorously. In an empty spray bottle, combine 2 teaspoons of this mixture and 1 cup water. Use at ten-day intervals (or more often if needed) to rid plants of whiteflies, mites, aphids, scales, and other pests. Follow this tips and you are on your way to raising a healthy and plentiful organic vegetable garden. Happy Gardening! Copyright Mary Hanna, All Rights Reserved.
